Flounder Fishing has been as exciting as ever with several nice size keepers coming over the rail almost every day, according to Shirley aboard the Reliable out of Bower’s Beach Delaware. Yesterday, I get a message from a dear friend of mine, Dave. He sends me a message “call me now” and the message includes a picture of him holding a rainbow trout. In Ocean City, Chris Toner set a new cobia state record with a 72 pound cobia. Cobia is one of my favorite fish to catch as they are so hard fighting and such a true predator. The catch eclipsed the previous record of 67 pounds, 12 ounces set in 2007. Captain Jeremy aboard the Stalker contacted us and told us that the first tuna of the year were caught offshore. If it’s any indication, the fish was probably taken at the Hot Dog or the sausages. Get ready — the tuna season is upon us. Fluke action continues to dominate the inshore fishing scene. Some areas are experiencing almost all throwbacks. If you are fishing for flatties and catching only shorts, try another spot that might yield bigger fish. Kingfish action has improved, but no one can get the bloodworms that the kingfish desire. Offshore action has been hit-or-miss, with [...] The wind shifted to out of the South last week which drove the water temperature down inshore and turned off the fluke fishing along the beach. Offshore, shark action is reaching its summer peak with some makos and big threshers being caught just 18 miles from the beach. Fluke fishing in northern water continues to tease anglers with a ten to one mix of shorts to keepers, and bass fishing remains an evening bite. Increasing amounts of smaller bluefish are moving into the bays, and inshore bluefishing caught fire as the full moon arrives. The croakers are here, just in time for the 4th of July weekend. The Reliable II out of Bowers Beach is fishing daily, and Shirley said that they are “slamming” the croakers. Shirley aboard the Reliable out of Bower’s Beach said that the boat fished yesterday, and the croaker bite fell off a bit. They still caught some croakers and some nice size keeper flounder were caught with several shorts. Joe Piechotta won the onboard fish pool with the largest keeper flounder and turned right around [...] Shirley aboard the Reliable II said that Sunday morning started off with lots of Headboater enthusiasts who had one thing on their mind — winning the Reliable’s June Mega Monster Cash Pot Contest. |
