Bottom fishing on the Western Shore’s hard bottoms from the mouth of the West River north to Snake Reef, especially for white perch, is about as good as it can get. Clams, bloodworms, peelers, grass shrimp and bait shrimp have been effective baits.
Top bottom fishing locations include Marker #1 at the mouth of the West River, Dolly’s Lump, the Western Shore Bay Bridge pilings, Tolly and Podickory points. Hackett’s Can, Thomas Point, Belvedere Shoals and the mouth of the Severn River has been sporadically productive for chummers and trollers. The best action for both tactics has been at daybreak during a slow moving tide before the competition arrives.
