Delaware Bay Fishing Report: Flounder Action Heats Up

Flounder Fishing has been as exciting as ever with several nice size keepers coming over the rail almost every day, according to Shirley aboard the Reliable out of Bower’s Beach Delaware.

Maryland State Record Cobia Caught

In Ocean City, Chris Toner set a new cobia state record with a 72 pound cobia. Cobia is one of my favorite fish to catch as they are so hard fighting and such a true predator. South Jersey Fishing Report: Fluke Dominate

Fluke action continues to dominate the inshore fishing scene. Some areas are experiencing almost all throwbacks. If you are fishing for flatties and catching only shorts, try another spot that might yield bigger fish. Kingfish action has improved, but no one can get the bloodworms that the kingfish desire. Offshore action has been hit-or-miss, with many more bluefish around than tuna for those fishing for bluefins. Canyon fishing is still spotty, with some days procuring much better than others. Central Jersey Fishing Report: Shark Action Peaking Off Central Jersey Coast

The wind shifted to out of the South last week which drove the water temperature down inshore and turned off the fluke fishing along the beach. Offshore, shark action is reaching its summer peak with some makos and big threshers being caught just 18 miles from the beach. 3Thresher04

In Barnegat Bay, the influx of freshwater and colder temperatures had a positive effect on the weakfish as bigger fish were being found near the inlets. Good Fluke Action Found In North Jersey

Fluke fishing in northern water continues to tease anglers with a ten to one mix of shorts to keepers, and bass fishing remains an evening bite. Increasing amounts of smaller bluefish are moving into the bays, and inshore bluefishing caught fire as the full moon arrives.

It looks like fishing should be good, barring any weather problems. Good numbers of weakfish are also moving into the bays. However, it’s still about 25 shorts to every keeper. Bottom fishermen are enjoying a solid mix of sea bass, ling and tog, along with increasing amounts of porgies. Croakers Hit the Delaware Bay

IMG_0843The croakers are here, just in time for the 4th of July weekend. The Reliable II out of Bowers Beach is fishing daily, and Shirley said that they are “slamming” the croakers.

She also said that several short flounder are also coming over the rails, and Walter Leashefski one 2.10-pound keeper that took the pool She said that some sea bass and blues were also caught. The Reliable is sailing daily at 7:00 a.m. and our Headboat price is $40.00 for a 7 hour trip.

Delaware Bay Fishing Report: Croaker Bite Continues

Shirley aboard the Reliable out of Bower’s Beach said that the boat fished yesterday, and the croaker bite fell off a bit. They still caught someMVC-006S croakers and some nice size keeper flounder were caught with several shorts. Joe Piechotta won the onboard fish pool with the largest keeper flounder and turned right around and caught another keeper.

She said that Seaford, Delaware resident Fay Griffith her Monthly Mega Monster Pot Cash money which totaled $164.00 for the month of June. Fay also won the onboard fish pool with her 5.5-pound flounder which was $64.00 for that day. She added that Fay is also in the running with her big flounder for the Annual Mega Monster Cash Pot, which is currently $240.00 and continues to grow.

Bower's Beach Flounder Action Continues

Shirley aboard the Reliable II said that Sunday morning started off with lots of Headboater enthusiasts who had one thing on their mind — winning the Reliable’s June Mega Monster Cash Pot Contest.

The June Mega Monster Cash Pot had jumped to $149.00. Several flounder shorts were caught and a heartbreaking almost close legal flounder was caught by Fay Griffith, which was 18 1/4″ long and thrown back. MVC-005S(2)

Not a one croaker was caught or even seen. Finally, cries of “Fish On” broke the silence. Fay Griffith from Seaford, Delaware hooked into a big one. At first, she thought it was a skate, because it did not want to come off of the bottom. Continue reading Bower's Beach Flounder Action Continues
