I live way south of you , but can tell you ive caught them with cut bait.
They take line fast and move like Lightning , A bait caster with a lite drag set at with least 25- 30 lb test.
A five pound blue will make you think you have a 50 pound shark. Its probably one of the most exciting fish to catch. Along with cobia and marlin.

Seaside Park Fishing Report: Hot Striper and Blues Fishing All Around

The spring run is fully “on” in Central Jersey right now. Anglers are slamming the stripers and bluefish in Seaside Park and down through Island Beach State Park. We have yet to hear anything from up north around Sandy Hook, or further south, but come back soon and we’ll provide reports.

The bunker schools are solid this year, and the stripers and bluefish are capitalizing on these schools of menhaden. We recommend you get out there and capitalize on some great fishing.

Stay tuned and we’ll keep you up-to-date.

The fishing’s hot, so get out there and fish.

Good Fluke Action Found In North Jersey

Fluke fishing in northern water continues to tease anglers with a ten to one mix of shorts to keepers, and bass fishing remains an evening bite. Increasing amounts of smaller bluefish are moving into the bays, and inshore bluefishing caught fire as the full moon arrives.

It looks like fishing should be good, barring any weather problems. Good numbers of weakfish are also moving into the bays. However, it’s still about 25 shorts to every keeper. Bottom fishermen are enjoying a solid mix of sea bass, ling and tog, along with increasing amounts of porgies. The first bonito, albacore and croakers have been caught in northern waters, and we got the first reports of yellowfin being taken. Continue reading Good Fluke Action Found In North Jersey

Jason Wavro fished aboard the Fin Chaser and got into good numbers of blues, then nailed a number of stripers, including this one. Jason said that they ended up catching some keeper linesiders as well as shorts. Great work.

Virginia Coast Bluefins and Bluefish?

Anglers were surprised when sizable schools of small bluefin appeared along the canyon edges at the beginning of the season. Meanwhile yellowfin were absent, at least in the first weeks. Inshore, where bluefin were supposed to be, anglers found hordes of enormous bluefish which destroyed nearly any lure fished. Setting four lines would not be possible before all rods would go down.
